What is Heliophysics?
Heliophysics is all of the science common to the field of the Sun-Earth connections. This fast-
developing field of research covers many traditional sub-disciplines of space physics, astrophysics, and climate studies. The NASA Living with a Star program, with its focus on the basic science underlying all aspects of space weather, acts as a catalyst to bring the many research disciplines together to deepen our understanding of the system of systems formed by the Sun-Earth connection.
Two programs have emerged from this effort:

Heliophysics Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
A new postdoctoral fellowship program designed to train the next generation of researchers in the emerging field of Heliophysics. This program is sponsored by the NASA Living With a Star (LWS) program and administered by the UCAR Visiting Scientist Programs office. more . . .
Heliophysics Summer School
NASA and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Visiting Scientist Programs sponsored the Heliophysics Summer School to build this new field of science. This series of summer schools, started in 2007, helped graduate students and scientists learn and develop the science of heliophysics as a broad, coherent discipline that reaches
in space from the Earth's troposphere to the depths of the Sun, and in time from the formation of the solar system to the distant future.
The first three schools produced textbooks for use at universities worldwide. The continuation of the school program starting in 2010 will both teach other generations of students and develop the complementary materials that support teaching of heliophysics at both graduate and undergraduate levels. more . . .
