General Information

The 2008 Heliophysics Summer School will be held in Boulder, CO, July 23-31, 2008.  Students will arrive on July 21 or 22, depending on locality, and leave Boulder on July 31.  Each student who lives outside a 75 mile radius of Boulder, Colorado, will be provided with a roundtrip airline ticket, lodging (double occupancy), per diem and ground transportation in Colorado.  Transportation to and from the hotel to the meeting site will also be provided.

Students coming from outside the United States will need to obtain an entry visa.  Airline tickets will not be purchased until visas are obtained.  Information on obtaining a B-1 Visitor’s Visa is available on the web at http://www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/business.html.  Some countries are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program, which is also explained on this website.  Please note that the $100 visa fee will be reimbursed by UCAR, but travel to obtain a visa is not an allowable cost.  Many countries have a wait time to get an appointment at the local US Embassy, so selected participants should plan accordingly.

Emergency medical treatment for illness or accident is very expensive in the United States.  International students should have medical emergency insurance coverage for their stay in the U.S.  If this is not available in your country, it will be provided.

These pages will be updated as additional information becomes available regarding logistics for the 2008 Heliophysics Summer School.
